What are the SAT & ACT?

In general, the SAT and the ACT are tests that attempt to measure college readiness and future academic success.

Typically, when a student applies to a California State University or a University of California college the colleges look at the following:
  1. Students must take a sequence of high school courses that students must complete (with a grade of C or better) to be minimally eligible for admission (typically referred to as A through G)
  2. SAT or ACT Composite Scores
  3. For the University of California campuses, you will need to answer personal insight questions.

In general, private colleges require the SAT or ACT for admittance.  In this case it is best to check with the specific college to find out admission requirements.  To research independent colleges go to the California Private Colleges and Universities (AICCU) website.
